Micro-mobility in Vilnius
Buzzing e-scooters and bicycles have already become a familiar part of sustainable mobility in Vilnius. If you use them too, we invite you to ознакомиться with the rules for electric micromobility vehicles. The city will thank you—and you’ll be thankful to yourself as well: for avoiding traffic incidents and enjoying smooth, pleasant trips around the capital.
JGuidelines for using electric micromobility vehicles in Vilnius
Plan your trip so you don’t need to exceed the speed limit
Electric micromobility vehicles are fast, but conditions on the road can change even faster. Even a small obstacle can lead to serious consequences—remember that the wheels of e-scooters and bicycles are sensitive even to the smallest stone. For greater safety, wear a helmet and—after dark—reflective gear as well.
Pedestrians have priority on sidewalks
When travelling on sidewalks, pedestrians always have the right of way. You must move at walking speed, and when overtaking, keep a safe distance (at least 0.5 m) and maintain a speed of 3–7 km/h.
Stay aware of your surroundings—not your playlist
Stay focused while riding—pay attention to your surroundings and the sounds around you. Save your favourite song or podcast episode for when you are taking a break.
Adjust your riding speed to match pedestrian movement.
Parks, squares and public green spaces are places where you will encounter many people, children, and pets, so be especially careful when riding in these areas. If pedestrian traffic is heavy, walk alongside your electric micromobility vehicle.
Two wheels—same rules apply
E-scooter and e-bike riders must follow the same rules as cyclists:
- You must ride on cycle paths, cycle lanes, bicycle streets, or low-traffic streets (where the speed limit is up to 30 km/h).
- Only if none of these options are available, riding on the sidewalk is allowed—only as a last resort, when there are no other alternatives.
Remember: pedestrians have priority on sidewalks.
E-scooters and bicycles are not the only ones on the road
When travelling by e-scooter or bicycle and crossing an intersection, always stop or slow down and make sure it is safe to proceed.
A pedestrian crossing is for pedestrians—get off your electric micromobility vehicle and walk it across.
Ride across a cycle crossing only after ensuring that other road users can see you and are giving way.
Use an electric micromobility vehicle one at a time
Remember: one e-scooter or e-bike is for one person only.
Romantic rides for two, three or more people on a single e-scooter or e-bike are not allowed.
Don’t leave an electric micromobility vehicle just anywhere
An e-scooter or bicycle must not be left just anywhere—especially at intersections, public transport stops, or across pedestrian or cycle paths.
Park vehicles safely: use designated parking areas, or leave them alongside bicycle racks, trees or poles, positioned in line along the street, pedestrian path or building wall, etc., ensuring they do not obstruct pedestrians or other road users.
Keep your hands on the handlebars
You must ride with both hands on the handlebars. Using a phone is not allowed—the safest place for it is in your backpack, bag, or pocket, not in your hands.
Getting around Vilnius is possible not only by own bicycle or electric scooter, but also by using sharing services
During the warmer months, bicycles and scooters can be rented flexibly and conveniently from several different companies operating in the capital, which contribute to the implementation of a sustainable transport vision in the city. What’s more, using the sharing services is really easy – you can do so using your mobile phone or by purchasing a special card.

The main principles of e-scooter and bike sharing services in Vilnius
Vilnius is a city that moves smoothly, where electric scooters and bicycles have already found their place. In order to introduce more order in parking micro-mobility vehicles from sharing platforms and to increase traffic safety in areas heavily used by pedestrians, the main principles for providing electric scooter and bicycle sharing services in Vilnius are presented.
Based on these principles, the aim is for city residents who use sharing services to contribute to the creation of a culture of mobility and to ensure safe traffic for all participants through their behavior. The approval of these principles aims to ensure that smooth movement in the city is created not only by sharing service providers and their users and Vilnius City Municipality, but also by residents using personal micro-mobility devices.
Safe speed and restrictions
The safe speed limit is up to 20 km/h.
In the Old Town and specific areas (e.g., on bridges, viaducts, etc.), the speed limit is up to 12 km/h.
On Vilniaus, Pilies, and Savičiaus streets, signs prohibit the use of scooters and bicycles.
Riding rules
Micromobility vehicles may be used:
On a pedestrian path or in shared space with pedestrians if there is no other suitable infrastructure nearby and the speed limit on the street is higher than 30 km/h;
Only on a cycle path or in a designated lane, where available;
On the road or in shared traffic with cars where the speed limit is up to 30 km/h (e.g., on a bicycle street).
Cooperation and education
The city and business partners work together to ensure the highest possible level of safety for residents and visitors, improve infrastructure quality, and raise awareness about the proper and safe use and parking of vehicles, compliance with traffic rules, and more.
They also commit to providing up-to-date information and data on service usage and future plans.
Parking of electric scooters and bicycles
Park your vehicles in parking areas specifically designated for electric scooters and bicycles, marked with horizontal markings.
If there are no marked areas, e-mobility devices must be left in such a way that they do not obstruct other road users, for example: along the street, on the sidewalk, next to bicycle racks, along the walls of buildings, trees or poles, etc.
Reminder: parking of electric scooters and bicycles is restricted in the old town, parks, squares, on bridges, viaducts, and other places where pedestrian traffic intersects.
Let’s enjoy the streets of Vilnius together!
In the center of the capital, electric micro-mobility devices can only be left in special parking lots. This parking arrangement on city streets helps everyone fit in.
In the Old Town, on bridges and other specific areas, with heavy pedestrian traffic, e-scooter and bicycle riders must travel at a speed not exceeding 12 km/h, and signs prohibiting e-scooter and bicycle traffic are in effect on Vilniaus, Pilies, and Savičiaus streets.
