Video surveillance system

The traffic management system consists of video surveillance cameras, servers, software, and video surveillance devices (monitors).
The video surveillance system provides the possibility to observe the traffic situation in real time. When traffic is monitored in this way, it is possible to react quickly to congestions as well as changes in traffic conditions and to promptly detect traffic accidents and violations of Road Traffic Rules.
When dealing with accidents or Road Traffic Rules’ violations detected by the traffic monitoring cameras, the Traffic Management Centre cooperates with the Chief Police Commissariat (CPC), the Emergency Response Centre (ERC), and the Public Order Division of Vilnius City Municipality. The video surveillance system is also useful when police officers need to determine the circumstances of traffic accidents.
There are also video cameras in Vilnius City that have the number recognition function and detect the vehicles that did not pass technical inspection and do not have the compulsory insurance for civil liability. This is a preventative measure taken to discipline the drivers of vehicles that do not have the compulsory insurance for civil liability and are technically inadequate in order to reduce the number of such vehicles on the street, as well as the pollution they cause, and to increase traffic safety.
Video recordings and other data of the Traffic Management System are provided free of charge and by request to the officers of the Chief Police Commissariat of Vilnius District and the judges of the courts of the Republic of Lithuania, as well as the lawyers, in accordance with the Law on the Bar of the Republic of Lithuania. Video recordings and other data of the Traffic Management System are not provided to private persons.
