Can I transport a bicycle, scooter, skateboard on public transport?

Yes, bicycles can be transported on public transport if the vehicle has a designated area marked with a bicycle symbol. The passenger must securely fasten the bicycle in the vehicle. However, if the designated space or the space reserved for persons with wheelchairs is occupied, the bicycle cannot be transported, except in cases specified in this section. A passenger transporting a bicycle in the designated area must give up the space to a person with a wheelchair and exit at the same stop, unless specified otherwise in this section, where a bicycle can be transported without securing it.

Bicycles can be transported without being secured in all vehicles, except during peak hours (on weekdays from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.).

Transporting a bicycle, scooter, electric scooter, skateboard, or other small micromobility devices is free of charge.

Small micromobility devices in Vilnius public transport

Scooters, electric scooters with a maximum power output of no more than 1 kW and a maximum design speed of no more than 25 km/h, hoverboards, skateboards, and other small micromobility devices can be transported in all public vehicles without being secured by a special fastening device. Passengers must carry them in a folded position, if the design of the device allows for it.

A safe and comfortable journey for all passengers

In any case, a bicycle, scooter, electric scooter, skateboard, or any other small micromobility device is allowed to be transported only if the vehicle is clean and its transportation does not hinder the safe and comfortable journey of other passengers. If this condition is not met during the journey, the passenger transporting the bicycle, scooter, or other small micromobility device must exit at the nearest stop; otherwise, the controller or driver has the right to require them to disembark.

Responsibilities of the Person Transporting a Micromobility Device

The passenger transporting a bicycle, scooter, or any other small micromobility device is responsible for any risks posed to the safety of other passengers and for any damage caused to the vehicle. A passenger who wishes to transport a bicycle or scooter must board the vehicle last and, as specified in this section, may only transport one bicycle, scooter, electric scooter, or other small micromobility device. The passenger transporting the micromobility device is also responsible for any soiling of other passengers’ clothing or belongings.

How to travel with your pet in Vilnius public transport?

🐶 In Vilnius, passengers can transport their pets for free in suitable containers, such as a box or a bag, on buses and trolleybuses. If traveling with a larger pet that does not fit into any container, it can be transported without one.

🐶 The passenger must have documents indicating the pet’s vaccination records, and the pet must be wearing a muzzle (except for dogs for whom muzzles are not suitable due to their breed) and must be kept on a leash no longer than 0.5 meters. These requirements are specified in the Rules for the Transportation of Passengers and Luggage by Buses and Trolleybuses in Vilnius.

🐶 Please note that if your pet soils the bus or trolleybus interior, the passenger carrying the pet must immediately clean the soiled area. Additionally, the passenger is responsible for any damage caused by the pet to other passengers’ health, safety, property, and peace, and must compensate for such damage. The passenger must also comply with the Animal Keeping Rules approved by the Vilnius City Municipality Council.

What should I know about carrying luggage?

👜 A passenger is allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage for free, with dimensions not exceeding 60x40x20 cm or a total dimension sum not greater than 120 cm. The size limit does not apply to winter sports equipment and to one piece of hand luggage carried by students or pupils that is necessary for their studies.

A passenger with an additional single-use ticket may carry:

👜 A second piece of hand luggage, with dimensions not exceeding 60x40x20 cm or a total dimension sum not greater than 120 cm;

👜 Hand luggage with dimensions larger than 60x40x20 cm or a total dimension sum larger than 120 cm, provided it does not obstruct other passengers, is not bulky, and does not dirty the bus/trolleybus seats or passengers’ clothing.
