Sustainable mobility in Vilnius

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) was created for this purpose. It is about the convenience of people moving around the city as they wish. It is about how the city is changing and will change over the next decade as a result.
The JUDU slogan “Simply around the city” reflects its philosophy and purpose for the people of Vilnius – to unify and make more convenient all existing and future mobility options: public transport, car traffic, cycling, scooters, and other modes of mobility that will emerge in the city.
Vilnius, like other progressive European capitals, encourages residents to travel in diverse ways and change their habits so that greater balance can be achieved across the city’s mobility landscape.
What is sustainable mobility?
The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, a document of more than 1,000 pages, was prepared by 16 institutions and organizations, numerous specialists and experts working in them. It also summarizes the habits and opinions of city residents who participated in meetings and discussions during the preparation of the plan, as well as data from surveys and traffic monitoring.
We can therefore confidently say that many Vilnius residents have already contributed to smoother and more balanced travel in the city.
How did the idea of a harmoniously moving Vilnius come about?
When developing the Vilnius Sustainable Mobility Plan, we did not limit ourselves to transport and mobility alone, but also took into account social, economic, environmental, and political-institutional criteria.
We invite you to learn how the idea of a sustainable Vilnius came about and how similar visions are being implemented in other European cities.
