P. Vileišio Bicycle Street
In May 2024, P. Vileišio Street in the Antakalnis district was redesigned to become Lithuania’s first true bicycle street, where cyclists have equal rights with motorists. A bicycle street is a new format, a traffic control measure in Lithuania that only appeared in 2022. Although Vilnius already had bicycle lanes, they did not reflect the principles characteristic of this type of street in terms of infrastructure. The first street where the bicycle lane format has been fully implemented is P. Vileišio Street.

Positive changes
High-quality pedestrian paths have been installed along the entire length of the street, making it easier to walk, and rest areas have been set up
The street has been adapted for the mobility of people with individual needs, and the necessary tactile surfaces have been installed
A “Bicycle Street” has been set up – here, bicycles move in the general traffic flow but are treated as equal participants in traffic alongside cars.
This is the first bicycle street built according to the principles of a bicycle street – it has red asphalt pavement and separate lanes for traffic
